Mental Health First Aid
The Mental Health First Aid program was developed in 2001 and moved to Orygen Youth Health Research Centre at the University of Melbourne in 2005. The program is conducted at various locations all over Australia and Internationally.

Facilitated by Sue Durham, VICSERV's Training manager and MHFA Instructor, this two-day program teaches participants how to provide initial support to adults experiencing a mental health crisis or developing a mental health problem. Participants will learn the signs and symptoms of major mental health problems, where and how to get help, and, according to research, what sort of help is effective.
The Mental Health First Aid program has been well evaluated and found to be effective in improving mental health literacy, reducing stigma and increasing helping behaviours. These evaluations have been carried out in a workplace and a community setting.
The program is being offered in 2009 in February and May at VICSERV. Click here for more information. To register, click here.
