Program & Code Mental Illness and Bereavement Workshop – An introduction for professionals T940
Expression of Interest form
About Facilitators: Sarah Coker, Garrett O’Dowd and Margi Nunn from SANE

It is a sobering fact that one of the main causes of premature death amongst people with a mental illness is suicide – and studies indicate that family and friends left behind are then at a much higher risk of suicide themselves. Support for families and friends after suicide is an important, and often overlooked, suicide prevention strategy. VICSERV in partnership with SANE is proud to offer this workshop to its member organisations so they can further develop their staff in this area of need. This workshop encourages managers, trainers and senior staff to think about the importance of supporting bereaved family and friends of clients of mental health services who have died by suicide or gone missing, and to explore issues that may arise during this process. Part of the workshops will be a discussion of the SANE Best Practice Bereavement Guidelines that encourages a more formalised approach to responding to the bereaved. Expressions of interest for this program close 29th May 2009.
Fee inc GST There is no fee for this workshop
