1. Certificate IV in Mental Health, (CHC40508)

Certificate IV in Mental Health (CHC40508) is a national qualification that makes up one level of the National Community Services and Health Training System. This national system has been developed by the combined efforts of government and non-government agencies, union representatives and professional bodies as well as workplace representatives on a national project team. It provides training options for a career path for employees in a range of sectors in Community Services and Health. This specialist, nationally recognised course has been developed by VICSERV and is specifically designed for people currently working in the community managed mental health sector. To enrol in the program the participants need to be currently working in the sector (in a full time, part time or casual capacity).

2. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, (TAE40110)

The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110) is a nationally recognised qualification designed to help staff working across a broad range of work functions and activities within vocational education and training (VET). The Certificate specifies the skills and knowledge required to design, deliver and evaluate industry and or subject specific workplace and classroom-based learning and to plan, conduct and review competency-based assessment in a range of contexts.

VICSERV and Wodonga TAFE are interested in increasing the number of qualified mental health workers in the sector who can help us deliver and assess nationally recognised training packages. To do this we require mental health staff who hold the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to be available to train within the current suite of VICSERV nationally accredited courses. In particular, we are requiring trainers to deliver in the Certificate IV in Mental Health qualification. It is expected that applicants who are selected into this particular Certificate IV in TAA course will make themselves available to VICSERV as a casual trainer.

3. Diploma of Management (BSB51107)

The Diploma of Management is a unique opportunity for participants to undertake a formal, nationally-recognised, tertiary qualification in management that can also be used as credits towards future qualifications.

The content is targeted at team leaders, program managers and/or first-line supervisors, encompassing a broad range of the people, planning and technical skills (competencies) they will need to function in that role. It is ideally suited to those working in the PDRS or community mental health sector.

The qualification is attained through attending a series of eight modules spread out over 11 months and undertaking a practical work based project. Assessment of competence occurs through a work-based project, assignments, workshop activities and observation.

The project report not only demonstrates a participant’s competence in the various areas of the Diploma, but also adds value to their workplace and demonstrates the practical application of skills learned and developed in the training room. Projects could include developing an induction program for new staff members or visitors to the organisation, designing a training needs analysis and plan for staff within a program or across the whole organisation and developing and implementing a community integration strategy.

The unique nature of this program ensures the learning transfers to the workplace, both via the work based project and the involvement of the participant’s manager and other colleagues and staff, including a final project presentation to management.
